About the Department
Technology is at the core of the knowledge-based organisation. It enables MFSA's strategic and operational objectives to be achieved efficiently and effectively.
The Technology team leverages cutting-edge technology, industry standards and methodologies to provide reliable services to the rest of the organisation and the financial services sector interacting with the Authority electronically. It is responsible for; technology design, information security, development, integration and delivery of all information and communications infrastructure, platforms and services, working with technology vendors and partners.
The Technology team is made up of professionals specialised in relevant areas that include governance and planning, infrastructure and service management, information systems, and security. Officials from Technology also participate and give their contribution in several European committees, expert groups and industry fora.
About the Role
As a Junior Assistant (intern), you will contribute towards the day-to-day duties of the Governance & IT Planning team and work on the following tasks:
• Supporting in Research and Policy Work: Helping to investigate rules, guidelines, and best practices around cybersecurity, data protection, and technology use. Assisting with the updating of internal policies and procedures based on this research.
• Assisting with Compliance and Risk Activities: Helping the team to make sure that the organisation is following cybersecurity and privacy laws and standards. This includes checking how well current practices align with rules and identifying areas for improvement.
• Supporting Risk and Vendor Assessments: Assisting in checking for potential security risks within the organisation and when working with external partners or vendors. Helping to prioritise what needs attention.
• Monitoring and Responding to Security Events: Helping to track and respond to basic security alerts using standard procedures. Collecting of information, adding helpful context, and keeping detailed records for further analysis by senior staff.
• Supporting Security Tools and Controls: Helping to test and fine-tune security tools to make sure they’re working properly and not generating too many false alarms. Assisting in keeping these tools up to date.
• Assisting in Awareness and Training: Supporting the team in creating and sharing cybersecurity training materials with employees. Helping to run awareness activities like phishing simulations.
• Staying Informed and to Keep Learning: Taking part in training and self-study to learn about new threats and ways to protect against them. Staying up to date with the latest in cybersecurity.
• General Team Support: Working closely with the security team, communicating clearly, staying organised, and being ready to handle tasks that may arise. Accuracy, attention to detail, and teamwork are key.
About You
You are a dynamic team player who is energetic and motivated to contribute with creative solutions.
You will have a passion in Computer Science, Technology, Cybersecurity, or related fields, and are currently in the stage of obtaining a qualification in the relevant field at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.
