Overview

About the Department 

The Financial Stability function is responsible for identifying and assessing risks that have the potential to spread within the financial sector and the real economy (systemic risks). Through its own macroprudential research and analysis of the financial sector, which covers the banking, insurance, and securities sectors, the function contributes to the formulation of policies aimed at mitigating identified risks. 

  

About the Role  

As a Senior Analyst within Financial Stability you will be responsible for the following job accountabilities:  

  • Taking an active role in the identification and surveillance of current and emerging risks developing within the banking sector; 
  • Assisting in developing qualitative and quantitative techniques such as econometric modelling with time series, setting up of questionnaires and constructing indicators; 
  • Preparing technical and analytical reports and briefing notes on systemic and/or other associated risks, particularly within the banking sector; 
  • Attending and assisting in technical meetings organised within the MFSA as well as at national and European/international levels; 
  • Contributing to the MFSA’s publications in the area of financial stability; and 
  • Undertaking other tasks/duties as directed by line management. 

The selected candidate is expected to be able to multi-task and meet strict deadlines, be able to work on own initiative and have attention to detail. Knowledge of statistical software such as Python, R and SQL will be considered as an asset 

  

About You 

The role calls for an academic qualification in Economics, Mathematics, Finance, or a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level. You will also possess a minimum of three (3) years working in the area of financial services and/or compliance with financial services regulation for a number of years.  

If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but you have at least seven (7) years of relevant experience in the area of financial services and/or compliance with financial services regulation, we would still be interested in speaking with you.

The selected candidate will be given opportunities to learn and be trained for the role, through various mechanisms which the Authority holds, such as, the Financial Supervisors Academy and also on the job training.
