Overview

About the Department 

The Investment Services Supervision Function is responsible for the authorisation and supervision of investment services licence holders and recognised persons. The Authorisation Team in particular is responsible for the processing of applications of entities proposing to carry out activities in terms of the Investment Services Act. The Investment Services Supervision Function is also involved in policy-related work. 

 About the Role 

As Head of Investment Services Supervision you will be responsible for: 

  • Ensuring the appropriate distribution of work tasks and the achievement of the set strategic objectives for the function; 
  • Coordinating and liaising with the respective regulatory and management functions and other areas of the MFSA; 
  • Guiding, mentoring and supporting managerial staff, analysts, and support staff within the function; 
  • Lead the team to develop the required analytical skills; 
  • Dealing with issues relating to the affairs of the department; 
  • Participating in recruitment, staff training, and performance appraisal processes; 
  • Preparing budgets for the department; 
  • Managing employee retention, ensuring adequate function structure and succession planning for the team; 
  • Maintaining policies and procedures relating to the function;  
  • Representing the function and the Authority and participating in local and international fora on any issues relating to the Investment Services Supervision Function; and 
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Chief Officer Supervision and as dependent on the exigencies of the MFSA.  

About you 

We are looking for candidates with solid academic background in Investments, Law, Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Economics, or in another related background. Experience related to asset management and fund structures will be considered as an asset for this role. 

The role calls for an academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level. 

You will also possess a minimum of 7 years of experience in a similar role at a senior level in the area of financial services and/or compliance with financial services regulation. Candidates with longer working experience relevant to the role will be preferred. 

If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but you have at least 14 years of relevant experience in senior level roles, we would still be interested in speaking with you. 

The candidate should possess the following skill set: 

  • Strong leadership and people management skills. 
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills. 
  • The ability to define priorities effectively. 
  • A collaborative attitude.
