Overview

About the Function

The Due Diligence Function protects the interests of consumers and investors by centralising integrity checks on persons and entities licenced by the Authority. This is done through the usage of industry-leading and specialised screening tools, obtaining information from within as well as outside the Authority as well as through the application of subject matter expertise. The Due Diligence coordinates actively with other local and foreign authoritative bodies to share information as well as experiences and training. Within this context, the Function plays an important role in determining approved individuals’ fitness and properness as well as the reputation of current and prospective licence holders.

 

The role

You will be expected to:

  • Conduct basic and enhanced due diligence and screening by verifying documentation, performing screening using “open source” and specialised tools and evaluating results,
  • Carry out checks on entities by reviewing corporate documentation, accessing data from registries, verifying ownership and conducting screening,
  • Conduct checks on new applications received by prospective licence-holders,
  • Analyse, assess, present and discuss findings with management,
  • Assist in the preparation of management information to identify trends and areas for improvement,
  • Summarise findings within reports that can be shared with management,
  • Coordinate and cooperate with other departments within the MFSA as well as with other authorities,
  • Contribute as a team towards process improvements, policies and procedures,
  • Develop other initiatives that are conducive towards the growth of the Function and the Authority’s standing, and
  • Other duties and tasks as may be assigned by senior management.

 

About you

You have an academic qualification in financial services, criminology or in another related background at National Qualification Framework Level 6 (MQF6) or better. If your qualifications are not from Malta, please make sure that they are certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.

You also have knowledge of financial services legislation, familiarity with the financial service’s regulatory framework, an understanding of financial crime including money laundering and financing of terrorism, and a relevant Post-Graduate Degree would be considered as an advantage.

You will also need to have at least three (3) years' experience in a capacity related to the subject. Candidates with longer working experience relevant to the role may be preferred.

If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but have at least seven (7) years of relevant experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you.

The following skill set is a must for this position:

  • The ability to multi-task and work on own initiative;
  • The ability to work in a team;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • The ability to cope with a large volume of work, prioritise and deliver under pressure;
  • Sound analytical and judgmental skills.
