Overview

About the Department

The Insurance and Pensions Supervision function within the MFSA is responsible for the prudential supervision of retirement schemes, retirement funds, retirement service providers, insurance companies and insurance intermediaries. The team employs professionals with a varied background and varied skills in the areas of pensions, insurance, accounting, legal, quantitative analysis, actuarial, compliance and other related areas.

About the Role

We are searching for a highly motivated individual who wants to effectively contribute towards the supervision of the pensions sector to join the Compliance team of the Insurance and Pensions Supervision function. Reporting to the Senior Manager, the individual will be expected to carry out the following tasks:-

  • Assisting the Senior Manager in leading a team of professionals whose primary responsibility is to undertake analytical duties related to various areas including but not limited to compliance, investments, risk management and finance, to ensure that licence holders are conducting their business  in line with their statutory and regulatory obligations emanating from their operating licences;
  • Assisting the Senior Manager in developing the supervisory plan as well as providing the necessary support to ensure that this is effectively implemented within the timeframes agreed;
  • Acting as a reference point to other staff members and involve him/herself in ad hoc assignments related to specific regulatory and supervisory issues that arise;
  • Actively participating in onsite compliance inspections of licence holders, which will include opportunities to lead the onsite team as necessary;
  • Carrying out ongoing offsite surveillance on licence holders;
  • Reporting on the outcome of the different assignments as may be appropriate and necessary;

About You

We are looking for candidates with interest in working within the financial services area, preferably in the area relating to the supervision of the pensions sector and are keen to continue learning and developing their career with the MFSA.

The role calls for an academic qualification in the relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level. You will also possess a minimum of 5 years work experience within a relevant area. Candidates who are qualified in any of the following areas - finance, investments, compliance, risk management, internal audit and law are encouraged to apply.

If you do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but you have at least 10 years work experience, we would still be interested in speaking with you. Candidates with longer working experience relevant to the role will be preferred.
